Here’s How Inverter Generators Create Clean & Stable Power Conventional Generators Produce a Single Sine Wave per Rotation— The engine rotates two large coils of wire inside a circumference of magnets. Each full engine rotation produces a single sine wave of AC (alternating current) power. The engine must maintain a constant speed of 3,600 rpm to produce standard 60 Hz (cycles per second). (60 cycles per second times 60 (seconds per minute) = 3,600 cycles per minute). No matter how much load (lights, TV, sump pump, etc.) is needed, the generator must run at its full speed of 3,600 rpm, producing noise and consuming fuel. Sine Waves Displayed on Oscilloscope Robin Subaru Inverter Generators Produce over 300 Overlapping Sine Waves per Rotation— The engine rotates several small coils of wire in a circumference of very strong magnets. Each full rotation of the engine produces over 300 overlapping sine waves of AC power thus outputting far more electrical energy. How an Inverter Generator Works: STEP 1 Produce 3 Phase AC Power at up to 20,000 Hz. STEP 2 Convert AC Power to DC Power. STEP 3 Convert DC Power to Clean AC Power at 120 Volts/60 Hz.   Inverter Module Is Unit’s Heart & Soul— Before the inverter power can be used, it must first be transformed into the proper voltage & frequency required to power the user's equipment. The inverter module "converts" 3-phase high frequency AC power into DC power which is then "Inverted" to a very clean & stable 120 volt, 60 Hz AC power signal. All functions of both generator and engine are controlled by this single, sophisticated electronic module. Stability of Inverter Power Shown on Oscilloscope— The “pure” sine wave of energy produced by an inverter generator has full width and amplitude, and no voltage surge. Using an oscilloscope for comparison of sine waves illustrates the inverter advantage. The sine wave on the left shows distortion, and the sine wave on the right shows “clean,” stable output. Conventional Generator Sine Wave Inverter Generator Sine Wave Cutting Edge Microcomputer Control— Voltage regulation (less than 3%), frequency fluctuation (less than 1%), and wave distortion (less than 2.5%). Temperature of electronics and electrical conditions are monitored, and power output will be automatically cut off to protect the generator from overloading.
